Auto Darkening Filter Reacts Quickly After Striking an Arc The Speedglas lensfeatures user-selectable dark shades of shades 5, 8, 9 through 13, and a lightshade of 3. With a viewing area of 2.8 inches high x 4.2 inches wide (72 mm x107 mm), the 9100XXi provides the largest viewing area available in the 9100Series helmets, and an expansive field of view that helps the welder to seethe work in progress with minimal obstruction. Three arc detection sensors inthe lens activate the auto-darkening filter when an arc is struck. The lensthen switches from light to dark shade in approximately 0.1 milliseconds(1/10,000 of a second), giving the welder an instant transition from light todark shade while maintaining an optimal view for torch placement and weldpuddle control. When the weld is complete, the filter automatically returns tolight shade 3 with a delay of approximately 40-250 milliseconds, allowingalmost immediate inspection of the weld pool and preparation for the nextweld. Exhaust vents readily direct your exhaled air out of the helmet, helpingto reduce heat, humidity and fogging of the welding filter. The auto darkening filter can help reduce the need to flip the welding helmetup and down between torch placements, which boosts productivity by reducingthe stop-and-start time needed with passive lens welding helmets. This featurecan also reduce neck stain from “helmet nodding,” while greatly increasing theaccuracy of torch placement. The helmet’s battery life is approximately 2,000hours. The two Cr2030 3V lithium batteries that power the Auto-Darkeningfilter are easily accessible and replaceable, extending the helmet life.
