If you have recently purchased GG Bran Crispbread by the package from yourlocal health food store or online through low carb food outlets, you may havebeen confused to see a slightly different label with updated nutrition facts. We would like to help with the confusion by explaining how the nutrition factsare calculated and how serving size plays into that equation. On thenutritional label of GG Brand crackers, our customers are used to seeing theserving size listed as one cracker. European products will often state thenutritional information based on 1 cracker if the cracker size is 8 grams ormore, and GG has listed 1 cracker as the serving size on their packaging forover 30 years. When Hain Celestial acquired GG, they opted to use the servingsize of 2 crackers as recommended by the FDA (the FDA recommends thatnutritional information be stated in terms of a serving size of at least 15grams for crackers). This is why you see a difference in nutritional valueslisted on the new packaging. We are also required by the FDA to round up ordown when listing the nutritional values on the packaging. One cracker has .4grams of fat, but two crackers at .8 grams and must be rounded up to 1 wholegram. This mandatory system of “rounding up” the ingredients makes the calorieand fat content appear higher for two crackers. We have not changed theproduct. Please refer to the following charts which show the differencesbetween a serving size of 1 cracker and a serving size of 2 crackers. The mostimportant attribute of the appetite control cracker is its ability to satisfyone’s appetite and eliminate the need for snacks, sandwiches etc. whichcontain several hundred calories per serving. For example, take two crackersand some low fat cheese which total about 60 calories, drink a glass of water, and you will feel full. You no longer have a need or want for that turkeysandwich which contains 500 calories. You have saved net 440 calories.
