This astonishing wall-climbing robot has a motorized air suction system thatenables it to walk vertically up and down perfectly smooth surfaces, likeglass, plastic, whiteboards, and glossy laminates. The battery powered motordrives an innovative gear system that produces a rotating motion making thelegs move back and forth and up and down, mimicking a real gecko – so two ofthe feet are touching the wall while the other two feet are lifted off of thewall, in an alternating motion. At the same time, the gear system drives anair pump that sucks air inward at the two feet touching the wall while blowingair outward at the other two feet. In this way, two of the feet are alwaysholding the model to the wall, while the other two feet are pushing off andstepping forward. When the geckobot’s tongue hits an object in front of it, ittriggers the motor to go in reverse, thus causing the model to walk back downthe wall. While the model walks, its head and tail move from side to side, resulting in an amusing and lifelike lizard model. You can build six othermodels and conduct experiments with suction to learn about air pressure andthe mechanical physics of this unique device. Build models of an industrialrobotic arm with vacuum suction cup grippers, a car with suction cup wheels,an octopus with suction cup arms, a crawling insect, a window cleaning robot, and a vacuum holder device. A 24-page, full-color manual guides you throughmodel building with step-by-step illustrated instructions and providesscientific information and explanations.
