In the full-length sequel THE PARENT TRAP II, Hayley Mills returns to reprise
her roles as identical twins Sharon and Susan. Now all grown up, Sharon is a
single mom whose 11-year-old daughter Nikki is just as mischievous as she was!
During summer school Nikki and her new friend Mary turn into scheming
matchmakers when they try to get Sharon and Mary’s widowed father together.
Not quite able to make it happen, they turn to the one person who can really
help — Sharon’s twin Susan!|The movie is based on the popular German
children’s story “Das Doppelte Lottchen,” by Erich Kastner.|Double-exposure
and split screen shots — and a Hayley Mills’ lookalike — were used to create
the illusion of twins.|The film was shot mostly in California at various
locales including millionaire Stuyvesant Fish’s 5,200-acre ranch in Carmel,
Monterey’s Pebble Beach golf course, and the studio’s Golden Oak Ranch in
Placerita Canyon, where Mitch’s ranch was built.|To this day the Walt Disney
Archives receives requests for plans to Mitch’s home, but there never was such
a house; the set was simply various rooms built on a soundstage.|The Studio
later produced three television sequels to the movie, starring Hayley Mills.
