It is multi-branching and upright producing pencil-like flower spikes that bloom from thebottom up. The color is violet-blue and the blooms are very attractive to beesand butterflies. Blue Vervain seed needs a cold treatment to aid in thegermination process. Either plant the seed directly outdoors in the late fallor moisten the seed in a paper towel, seal the seed and moist paper towel in aplastic bag and place it in the refrigerator for 30 days before plantingoutdoors in the spring after danger of frost has passed. Press the seed intothe soil and cover lightly with peat moss. With a temperature of 65F,germination is usually within 25 days. Grow Verbena in full sun and in moist,well-drained soil. Space plants 24 inches apart. Usually, Blue Vervain isresistant to both deer and rabbits. It readily reseeds itself. Approximately100,000 seeds per ounce.
