The Viking Norse Warfare Gokstad Wooden Shield dates back to the days when
Vikings rode the high seas. Shields were the primary method of protection on
both land and sea, but the type used on Gokstad ships was unique. This style
of shield contained holes on the rim allowing Viking crews to attach non-
metallic rim protection. This proved to be beneficial in guarding against
inclimate weather when the shields were hung over the railing. Boasting
historically accurate design, this shield has solid wood construction with a
glossy black finish. This color serves as a distinctive backdrop for the 14
gauge steel umbo found in the center and the 18 gauge steel border. With
subtle, yet stylish character, this Viking shield is perfect for costumes, re-
